City Supports Habitat for Humanity Veterans Community

Check Presentation Scheduled for September 21

Post Date:09/07/2017 10:24 AM

The City of Santa Clarita is proud to announce its continued support of Habitat for Humanity’s Santa Clarita CalVet Residential Enriched Neighborhood (REN) and has contributed $350,000 to the development of the community. A formal dedication and check presentation in the neighborhood located across the street from 21545 Centre Pointe Parkway will take place on Thursday, September 21, at 11:30 a.m.

The event is open to the public and will feature remarks from Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth, Los Angeles County Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger and Habitat for Humanity President and CEO Donna Deutchman and Board Chairman Hunt Braly.

Habitat for Humanity, San Fernando/Santa Clarita valleys (SF/SCV) and the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) have teamed up on CalVet REN developments in Sylmar, Jurupa Valley, Palmdale and Santa Clarita. The CalVet REN program offers California veterans and their families permanent, affordable home ownership and family enrichment services.

The City became involved in the project in June, committing financial support to help complete the final phase of construction and allow Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV to provide services and other resources for residents in the neighborhood. The Santa Clarita CalVet REN opened in 2016 and is comprised of 78 homes exclusively for veterans and their families.
